GAIN by Christina Fox

This page will give you an idea of how selecting different gain settings can change the look and feel of a picture. HOWEVER, please remember the monitor, browser and operating system you use all effect the way an image looks.

15dB of gain
12dB of gain
9 dB of gain
6 dB of gain
3 dB of gain
0dB of gain

On a TV screen (at full size) the images taken between 12 and 18dB of gain look very grainy - the price you pay for being able to see in the dark.

These images are here to give you some idea of the difference each setting makes to the image. If you are unfamiliar with your camera, I highly recommend spending a few hours recording and reviewing your own test images.

All the images were recorded onto tape using a PD150. They were then transferred on to a memory stick and saved for the web using Photoshop V6.
